“On The Set With Taylor Swift: ‘You Belong With Me’” To Premiere on GAC June 20th!Courtesy GACTV.com — June 15, 2009 — Taylor Swift provides an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at her latest video in a new GAC special, On The Set With Taylor Swift: You Belong With Me, premiering Saturday at 10:30 p.m. ET.
The video, featuring a romantic high-school drama played out between two next-door neighbors, has Taylor doing a dorky bedroom dance not too far removed from the late Gilda Radner’s Judy Miller skits on “Saturday Night Live.”
“You Belong With Me,” co-written with Liz Rose, was — like most of Taylor’s songs — born out of her own life experience.
“I had overheard a friend of mine talking to his girlfriend,” Taylor notes. “He was completely on the defensive saying, ‘No, baby…I had to get off the phone really quickly…I tried to call you right back…Of course I love you. More than anything! Baby, I’m so sorry.’ She was just yelling at him! I felt so bad for him at that moment. So I came up with the first line, ‘You’re on the phone with your girlfriend, she’s upset, going off about something that you said,’ and I ran that into the story line that I’m in love with him and he should be with me instead of her. It just became this whole picture.”
The “You Belong With Me” video ranked at No. 2 on the most recent edition of GAC’s Top 20 Country Countdown. She performed the song Sunday in the closing stadium show at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville. Her six-song set also included “Picture To Burn,” “Our Song” and “Love Story.”
